"Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
BioLilian Norris is an artist, designer, writer, communications and marketing professional and project manager, who has always enjoyed exploring the world around her with a diversity of artistic media. She is a third generation, self-taught artist and a first generation American who grew up in a multicultural household. The experiences of having a potpourri of cultural heritage with French and Ecuadorian parents and grandparents living all together, and having spent quite a bit of time abroad in Europe, South America and Australia, have enriched her life and have molded a unique global perspective.
“Contributing positively to society and the world is at the core of my inner drive.” Her passions for art, science, and the natural world, have led her down diverse paths —allowing her to wear many hats. A formal training in biology and zoology has provided her with a keen eye for observation. While working in science and environmental education for most of her career, she has always been recognized for her artistic talents, communication and marketing abilities. She has been honored to have woven those into each profession. “Getting people of all ages excited about science, and fostering an appreciation for our natural world, makes it all worthwhile.” Creative, yet, analytical, Lilian has often worked in researching, analyzing, and interpreting data and translating it into a comprehensive form. Diverse projects focusing on science or the environment have ranged from scientific reports, technical marketing documents, publications, educational programs and curriculum, exhibits, signage, gardens and playgrounds. “I love to create, and when I can combine science and education with my artistic talents, I have hit a home run." Having explored many art forms early-on, Lilian realized that she could not be confined to just one. She enjoys using a broad spectrum of artistic media in her palette: paint (acrylics and watercolors), pencils, pastels, pen and ink, digital art, graphic design and photography. Additionally, she has dabbled with various art techniques and styles, including painting on silks, texture painting, ephemeral art and mixed media. Mechanically inclined, she also enjoys working with wood and natural materials, sculpting, molding and casting, model making and building exhibits. Professionally, she has enjoyed designing interpretive exhibits, signage, and publications, as well as brand creation, and marketing. “I enjoy creating in many different capacities and enjoy challenges. Brainstorming, planning, and developing interpretive elements, complex projects, or exhibits that spark the imagination and educate at the same time, are what I enjoy most. I conceptualize the big picture as well as the myriad details contained within it.” |
