"Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better." - Albert Einstein
Artistic Media
My love to create could never be confined to just one art medium. For this reason, I did not continue in my father's footsteps and do traditional art shows for long, as they typically required that you display only one medium. Over the years, I have enjoyed experimenting with a broad spectrum of artistic media in my palette: paint (acrylics and watercolors), pencils, pastels, pen and ink, digital art, graphic design and photography.
I have dabbled with various art techniques and styles, including painting on silks, texture painting, ephemeral art, and mixed media. Mechanically inclined, I have also really enjoyed working with wood and natural materials, sculpting, molding and casting, model making and building exhibits. For sustainability reasons, I moved into the digital world. Initially, I focused on nature photography and then moved into digital art. Professionally, I have enjoyed designing interpretive exhibits, signage, and publications, as well as brand creation and marketing. I've always felt that the world is my palette! |
Artistic Style
My artistic styles in painting mainly consist of realism, aboriginal dot and cross hatch, along with some surrealism, abstracts, texture relief, and trompe l'oeiulle art.
With photography, I like to capture powerful images that record a magical moment or tell a story. I also like to show hidden details that reveal incredible beauty and complexity (ones that most people don’t notice). Color, light, shadows, perspective, minute details, and form and function speak to me. When traveling, I connect with the beauty of iconic places, historic architecture, quaint locales, and symbolic culture. With digital art I have enjoyed using painterly effects, fractals, geometry and sci art. When designing programs for educational content, I enjoy making meaningful connections to illustrate points or concepts and provide greater insights. I would have to say that my overall approaches in art have mirrored my approaches in life: explorative and experimental. |
